Don't Miss TCT's A Christmas Carol

Come and enjoy something new this holiday season as Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre presents a BRAND NEW stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol. Written and directed by TCT alumnus, Jameson Sanford, A Christmas Carol is a play with traditional carols woven throughout Dickens’ classic story and is sure to bring Christmas cheer to anyone, even Scrooge! Songs include “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”, “In the Bleak Midwinter”, “Angels We Have Heard On High”, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, and many more.

Sanford first appeared on stage with TCT in 1996 as a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz. After appearing in numerous other productions with TCT, as well as in high school, he graduated from Tuscaloosa County High in 2008 and is now a sophomore at the University of Alabama pursuing a double-major in Math and Theatre with a minor in Computer Science. When asked why he wanted to write a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol, he said, “With a story so well known, it can be hard to keep the attention of the audience. In writing this particular version, I wanted to pull in different aspects from Dickens’ original text in order to tell the beloved story in a new way.”

Several members of the production staff for this show are also former TCT performers. Kelsey Holland (stage manager) first appeared on stage with TCT in 1997 as a Bee in Winnie-the-Pooh. Kelley Brown (choreographer) began her stage career with TCT in 1998 playing the role of Malty in Stuart Little. Mary Kathryn Mathews (assistant director) appeared in TCT’s first production of The Wizard of Oz as a munchkin in 1987. Sanford, Holland, Brown, and Mathews all appeared on stage together in TCT’s 1998 production of A Christmas Carol, and have now each returned to their roots to help bring this new telling of the story to life in 2009.

Rounding out the production staff is long-time Musical Director, Benny Russell, Costumer- Judy Holland, Technical Director- Charles Drucker, Sound Designer- David Jones, Lighting Designer- David Jones and Jameson Sanford, and Set Designer- Jameson Sanford.

The production will be staged at the Historic Bama Theatre in Downtown Tuscaloosa for public audiences Friday, December 18, at 7:00 pm, Saturday, December 19, at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, December 20, at 2:00 pm.
