The magic of The Nutcracker returns to the Bama Theatre this holiday season, as the Tuscaloosa Community Dancers (TCD) proudly present their 54th annual production of the beloved ballet from December 11–14. A cherished holiday tradition in West Alabama since 1971, The Nutcracker continues to delight audiences of all ages, bringing the community together for a sparkling journey into Clara’s dream world.

Led by Artistic Director Alden McShan and Executive Director and Costume Director Joyce Phillips, this year’s production features over 100 dancers from local studios including The Dance Centre, Ballet Arts & Fitness, and Druid City Ballet. With a dazzling mix of local talent and celebrated guest artists, the 2025 Nutcracker promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with holiday magic.

Guest Artists

Headlining this year’s cast is Emily Bromberg, who will dance the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Emily was a member of Miami City Ballet for 11 years, where she earned the rank of Principal Soloist. After a season performing in Europe with the Slovak National Theatre, she now dances with Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami while guest performing across the country. Joining her is returning guest artist Rainer Krenstetter as the Cavalier, celebrated for his elegant artistry and partnership on stages around the world. Also returning to the Bama Theatre stage is Carlos Guerra, co-founder of Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami and former Miami City Ballet dancer, reprising his captivating portrayal of Drosselmeyer.

Community Cast

This year’s Clara will be danced by Sarah Nelle Lasseter, a sixth grader at Northridge Middle School and daughter of Caroline and Lake Lasseter. Her playful brother Fritz will be portrayed by Avery Bordner, also a sixth grader at Northridge Middle School and son of Michelle and Seth Bordner.

TCD is also proud to highlight its talented senior dancers taking their final bows this season: Ellie Boulware, Northridge High School, performing as Opening Snow, Snow Corps, Colombine Doll, and Dew Drop. Lydia Smith, Northridge High School, performing as Opening Snow, Snow Queen and Arabian Lead. Gracie Hawkins, Northridge High School, performing as the Nutcracker, Opening Snow, Snow Corps, and Marzipan Lead. This year’s three graduating seniors have been dedicated members of TCD for many years, and their artistry, leadership, and love for dance will shine brightly as they take their final bows performing in the Nutcracker.

We could not produce this show without the tireless effort of all our talented dancers, whose dedication to every role, from the smallest mouse to the grandest soldier, is what weaves the story together and brings the magic of this production to life.
